2014
This was a fun year!
FROZEN was the huge movie that took over ever child in the world and made parents go insane with the constant singing of "Let it Go" hence the Olaf. You'll notice Olaf is also wearing Mickey Mouse ears which is redundant because Olaf himself is Disney. Well the ears represented the first year we took the boys to Disneyland. Charlie was just starting kindergarten and Oliver was 2.
Charlie started his "big boy" school at Gordon Greenwood Elementary this year and the school's mascot is a gecko. Therefore that is why there is a gecko swinging on the swing set.
As far as the fort and swing set go, I made it for the boys in our backyard that summer with the free wood I found on Craigslist. The swing set portion was given to us by some friends of ours.
You will notice a truck at the top of the slide. That is the truck I bought off my good friend that year to replace my outgrown Outback.
Inside the open window on the top floor of the fort you can see a toilet seat which can also be interpreted as an "O" for Oliver. That is because Oliver was potty trained this year.
Up on the roof is a soccer ball that the elf is sitting on and that was because Charlie started soccer that year. The elf on the other hand was to represent Mona breaking her ankle just before the year was out. I still think she wanted a bigger individual presence on the car that year! The lengths people will go to!!
On the front lower corner of the car is a "HOSPITAL" sign. While we were in Disneyland I was taken to emergency with kidney stones. Not the souvenir I was hoping to take home with me. Also on the hospital sign is the reminder that Charlie spent 5 days in the Langley hospital with pneumonia. It was scary for us parents but I'm sure it was terrifying for Charlie. We could have been out in four days but Charlie is the most stubborn child and refused to take the yummy strawberry antibiotic that we could give him at home as opposed to being hooked up to an I.V. It was close to Christmas and we told him if he wasn't at home Santa couldn't come to the house and give him his present. He decided the medicine was so delicious!
